We hear today over and over again how important essential fatty acids are for our kids, but there are also a lot of products out there to choose from, which can be overwhelming (especially when you are at the store with all of your kids).

Which one is right for MY kids? Do they REALLY need to take another supplement?

I know even I get confused when staring at a shelf at Walgreen’s, Whole Foods or anywhere else they have 20 or 30 choices.  Which one is the best quality? Which one is a rip-off? Well, don’t worry, I’ve done your homework for you!

Essential fatty acids, which our bodies don’t produce, are CRITICAL and without them our children’ s health is compromised. Who remembers the Little Rascals where they basically gave the kids cod liver oil every day for good measure or every time they were sick?

Well, they were right on the mark! However, luckily for them AND us, these days our kids don’t have to suffer through the taste and texture of swallowing fish oil.   There are many great tasty options out there for you and your kids, and they now are specifically tailored to the ages of your children as well as pregnant (or not) moms.

My kids LOVE the Nordic Naturals Gummy Fish! No pills to swallow or liquids to drink.  They beg me for them every morning.  I love that I am teaching them an important health habit for life, and it’s fun!

After researching many different brands, I know that I can trust Nordic Naturals because not only do they taste good, they are from the purest source, free of MERCURY, LEAD and other toxins commonly found in fish. They are also fresh and have been through 3rd party testing to ensure quality.

Why is it critical to give our kids EFA’s daily?? They help with:

*General inflammation, which is linked to all kinds of diseases like CANCER, autoimmune disease and impaired cardiovascular function
*Asthma (another form of inflammation)
*Brain development and function
*Immune function and response
*Vision and eye development
*Nervous system development
*ADD and ADHD
*Cognition
*Aggression and anger
*Diabetes and general weight management

The recommended daily allowance for kids is 150mg of DHA per day from birth until age 5. Most kids only get 1/5 to 1/3 of that daily.

I am sad to say that I didn’t know the importance of this with my first two kids when they were infants, but they have taken it religiously for the past few years.

Make sure you read the supplement facts to know how much you are getting. A 1000mg fish oil soft gel only refers to the size of the soft gel, not the levels of EPA + DHA!!!!!

We need just the right balance of Omega 3’s and 6’s to stay healthy. Most Americans consume 20x more Omega 6’s than 3’s, which has lead to increased inflammation and ultimately illness.

So make the right decision for you and your kids, and buy some Nordic Naturals today!
