Motherhood Center’s 2014 Winter Session children’s classes begin next week, and only a few spaces are left! MHC offers a wide variety of classes where families with newborn babies up to children who are 4 years old, come to learn together! If you’re looking to jumpstart your baby or toddler’s educational development, then look no further.  These classes are often called Mommy & Me classes, and include everything from Infant and Parent Montessori, Music, Montessori Art, Dance for both boys and girls, and Ballet. Parent & child classes help children develop motor coordination, and increase spatial and rhythmic awareness. Plus, Motherhood Center has several convenient class times both during the week and on the weekends to accommodate every family’s schedule.

Little ballerinasBallet (Ages: 4 – 5 yrs.) In ballet, the instructor will expand on what’s learned in pre-ballet by learning to dance through fun routines and ballet movements. In addition, ballet vocabulary will be extended with creative exercises and discipline will be encouraged as a fundamental learning block. Parents do not take part in this class, but are welcome to relax with light refreshments in our sitting area while children learn ballet. Pre-ballet is NOT required to take ballet.

Pre-Ballet (Ages: 2.5 – 3.5 yrs.) Young dancers are taught basic warm-up and stretch exercises to instill the idea of getting the body ready to dance; through fun routines, very simple ballet movements are taught in a playful environment; children learn to follow instructions, work in a group environment without a parent, and enjoy simple but effective early ballet practice. This is a class where creativity, musicality, and love of movement are nurtured.

Tiny Tutus (Ages: 18 mo. – 2.5 yrs.) In this baby ballet class, the parent and child dance together focusing on the child’s fine and gross motor skills, musicality, creativity, and fun. Children are gently urged to begin to follow the teacher as opposed to the parent, helping to form stronger listening skills as well as independence.

Motherhood Music  (Babies Classes: Birth – 11 mo. & Family Classes: Birth – 4 yrs.) The music program, developed by a group of experienced music educators, encourages children to explore the regions of the world by enjoying global music, rhythms, and movement from Eastern Europe & The Baltics, Latin America, Africa, and East & Southeast Asia. In weekly 45 minute sessions, children and their parents/caregivers sing, dance, and play together while experiencing different languages, cultures, and traditions. The curriculum develops a child’s music competence through developmentally age appropriate interactive music experiences while exposing them to various instruments and music from different parts of the world.
