Traveling isn’t always comfortable and during pregnancy it can be more of a pain (literally!). Luckily, there are a few things you can do to ensure you have a pleasant trip.1) If you are flying, check with your airline on their policies around pregnancy. Generally, if you are having a healthy pregnancy without complications, the rule of thumb is you can travel up until your last month of pregnancy. However, each airline has its own rules so it’s good to check ahead of time! 2) Consider insuring your trip in case you need to cancel, or booking a refundable ticket. Pregnancy can be unpredictable. 3) If you can pick a seat on your flight ahead of time opt for the bulkhead or an aisle. This will give you room to stretch your legs along with easy access to the bathroom. If you can’t pick your seat ahead of time most airlines allow pregnant women to preboard. Take advantage while you can. If you are driving, sit in the front seat to limit motion sickness. 4) Get up and stretch. Pregnant women are more susceptible to blood clots. Whether you are flying or driving take the time to stretch and move around. You can do this in your seat if you have to by simply pointing and flexing your feet.5) Stay hydrated to prevent swelling of your hands, legs, and feet. This will also help prevent blood clots.6) Bring a rolling suitcase. Be sure to ask for help when you need it. 7) Buckle your seatbelt. Whether you are in the car or on a plane, secure your seatbelt under your bump to keep you and your baby safe. Happy travels, everyone!
