What can a Gentle Sleep Coach do for your family?
Gentle Sleep CoachA gentle sleep coach is a person that helps you and your baby gently sleep through the night. There has been a lot of research on the “cry it out method” and the harmful effects it can cause a baby. As a gentle sleep coach, I cannot promise you that there will not be any tears during the sleep coaching process. When your baby cries, it is his/her way of letting us know that s/he does not like the new change. As a gentle sleep coach, I am here to support you in building a secure and positive parent/child attachment as well as to foster a healthy independence.

What type of crying is harmful?
According to some research, the type of crying that is harmful to our babies is prolonged and unattended, this type of crying can affect the baby’s brain wiring.  A gentle sleep coach will work with you in order to minimize the amount of crying by showing you how to be there with your baby while s/he is learning how to fall asleep on his/her own as well as the need for you to reassure your baby verbally and physically when needed.

What to expect once you decide to go forward with sleep coaching?
Once you contact me, I will send you a history form which will help me get a snap shot of what is going on with your little one. Once I get the history form back from you, I will schedule the initial consultation.
The Initial Consultation will be face to face; this gives you a great opportunity to meet with me and to have all your questions answered. After reviewing the history form I will also have some questions to ask you. The consultation will be about an hour to two hours depending on the number of children that are not sleeping through the night.
The Sleep Plan, I will work on a detailed sleep plan for you to follow. Having a sleep plan to follow will make it easier for you to know exactly what you need to do. This is very helpful especially during the middle of the night wakings, usually the hardest time for parents. During the middle of the night, we as parents tend to do whatever it takes to get some sleep and this is what sometimes gets us in trouble with our little ones.
The Follow Ups Calls, a lot of families get great benefit out of the phone follow up calls. These consist of 5, 20 to 30 minute calls. During this calls I will want to know how things are going and I will give you the support that you need along the way. Every family and baby is different so I will help you modify and trouble shoot any areas that need more attention.

Who Am I?

Sleep CoachHi, my name is Erika Simon. I am a marriage and family therapist associate and have been trained and certified as a Gentle Sleep Coach through Kim West, LCSW-C – The Sleep Lady®.  My training allows me to work with parents in all life stages and help them through the challenges that these may bring.
My motto is "sleep is sacred." I believe that if a baby or small child is not sleeping, then nobody is sleeping. There are many factors why relationship satisfaction diminishes with the arrival of the first child and sleep deprivation may contribute to more distress in a relationship. Sleep deprivation can adversely affect both partners in negative ways, it can contribute to postpartum depression, health issues, more arguments, and really challenge a relationship. As a baby sleep consultant I am available to help you through this exciting yet tiring time in your life. I am happy to work with your own comfort level and develop a plan and assist you through the process.
I also reside in Houston with my husband and two daughters, my own experience helps in giving me the family perspective and dynamic that enables me to understand my clients.
