Labor Doula   At The Motherhood Center, we offer a variety of Doula Service from Labor throughout Postpartum.  Our goal is to meet your needs with Doula care.  We are able to match you with a trained, experienced Labor Doula to be there for you and your partner during the delivery.   Women in labor truly benefit with the experience and devotion of a Labor Doula.  They are able to rub your back and speak to you calmly and soothingly, encourage your partner to be as involved in the birth as much as he/she desires, and aid communication between you and your partner with the medical staff.  You can rest assured with the knowledge that you and your partner are not alone.    Many times partners have noted how very happy to have that type of support as well.  Since for many of them, it is their first time in the delivery room also and they appreciate being able to support their loved one during this remarkable event.   There have been several studies on the effects of a Labor Doula’s presence during childbirth and here are a few benefits:  tendency to have shorter labor with fewer complications, able to reduce negativity towards one’s own childbirth experience, reduces the need for labor-inducing drugs, reduces requests for pain medication and epidurals, reduces incidence of C-sections, reduces prevalence of postpartum depression and babies born of mothers who had a Labor Doula tend to have shorter hospital stays and breastfeed more easily.   If you have more questions or feel that you would need the presence of a Doula during birth, we highly recommend contacting our office to start the process of matching you with the right Labor Doula for you.   Contact: Rene Bryan RN, CLE rene@motherhoodcenter.com 713-963-8880 x 113   *Please note that a Labor Doula does not replace a nursing staff and does not perform clinical or medical tasks.
