Prelude-
offers a research based music and movement program for children from infancy to kindergarten.

About Children and Music During the first year of life, children are sensitive to pitch duration and inflection. Children continue this kind of singing/sounding during their second and into their third year. From about age two to five, children are able to sing by themselves, rather than depend on a recording or having someone else sing with them. They are also able to make up spontaneous songs on their own, or sing their own "special" version of a song they know. Children under age six have a sensitive period for language, which is enhanced with music.

In Prelude music classes for children, your child will achieve BASIC MUSIC COMPETENCE. That is, your child will be able to sing in tune and move in a rhythmically accurate way. All songs are combined with age appropriate movemMusic Classent. With the right environment, many children can achieve basic music competence as early as age three. Typically, most children achieve this skill between the ages of four and six. If a child has not achieved basic music competence by age eight or nine, it becomes much more difficult to do so.

Come sing and dance with your children in a positive, educational and loving environment. Experience making music together!

Music Starts Early

Mom and Toddler at Music ClassPrelude provides music and movement classes for children from birth through kindergarten who are accompanied by their parents or caregivers. Classes are held on weekday mornings, afternoons and on Saturdays.

Children and their parents experience live classical instrument demonstrations presented by world-class musicians. Families are encouraged to attend class together, so siblings can learn music and movement activities to enjoy at home. Classes use Music Together curriculum, a research based music and movement program. This curriculum develops a child''s basic music competence by encouraging interactive music experiences rather than learning information about music. Up to 12 children and their caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and play instruments that are developmentally age appropriate. Both adults and children participate. Every family receives two CDs of the music, a song book and parent education materials. Each semester, an evening of parent education is offered to those enrolled in the program.

It is never too early for children to experience the wonder of music and experience making music first hand, states Music Director Ana Trevino-Godfrey. Children, even newborns, gravitate to music instinctively and it is never too late for parents to discover that music appreciation is an evolving life-long skill that they can enjoy for a lifetime with their families. All classes are taught by AnaTrevino-Godfrey, a classically trained professional singer, with her Doctorate of Music at Rice University. She has taught children of all ages from infancy to professional lives, including teaching at Interlochen Arts Camp, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Rice University and Rice University's Preparatory Summer Vocal Camp. In 2007, her love of music and children inspired her to create Prelude Music Classes for Children. She is a registered Music Together teacher and is founding member and Soprano soloist with Mercury Baroque.
