The Motherhood Center

Baby Nurse & Doula Services

Mission Statement

The Motherhood Center Baby Nurse Doula Agency provides trained professionals who care for the newborn, mother and whole family through non-judgmental educational, emotional and physical support. We understand families’ needs and tend to them during the day and night.

Helping and caring for families since 2000.

Excitement, joy, nervousness and a feeling of being overwhelmed are just some of the many emotions felt by new parents. In the past, many mothers had support and help from other women when welcoming home a new baby, especially in small communities. But with advances in technology and transportation, families today are spread out across greater distances and new mothers often face greater challenges in adapting to their new role.

That’s where our baby nurse doulas come in to help. The word doula originates from the Greek and means “woman’s servant.” While there is a strong emphasis placed on prenatal care in the United States, many people don’t think about what happens after the baby arrives. Our baby nurse doulas offer support to guide new parents postpartum through non-judgmental, highly individualized services tailored to fit the specific needs of the mother, new baby and their growing family. Our clients come from a variety of different backgrounds and we strive to be their support system, by helping them understand their baby’s needs so they will become more knowledgeable and comfortable. We work with parents to encourage them to trust their instincts, give them the knowledge to make informed decisions and the support to embrace parenthood with confidence. It is important to note that our advice is always of a non-medical nature.

Baby Nurses and Doulas from The Motherhood Center are available to assist mothers and fathers day, night or around the clock. They help new parents make the transition into motherhood and fatherhood by providing dedicated care for newborns and the whole family. This allows mom and dad to recuperate, heal and bond with the new addition to the family. With support from our doulas, new parents will gain wisdom in all aspects of newborn care from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. Doulas can even take care of meals, simple errands and light duties around the house so moms can rest and bond with the baby.

“It has been a great pleasure having Christi in our home,” said one parent. “Not only does she inspire confidence in her skills looking after our newborn, her friendliness and warmth made us feel like she was part of the family. She is trustworthy and we always felt that when we left our Ellie in her care, she would be taken care of just as we, her parents, would. I can think of no higher compliment. We will miss her greatly.”

The Motherhood Center Baby Nurse Doulas are trained by Gabriela Gerhart, founder of TMC, as well as other educators and instructors at the center. Gerhart has more than 10 years experience in the field and ensures doulas receive extensive training and continuing education in the field. All prospective doulas go through a background check and are CPR certified.Triplets_1

“We have regular meetings with all doulas,” said Gerhart. “We share our thoughts and hear from guest speakers on different topics, such as baby and mother care, postpartum depression, relationship issues and mentoring. We are very hands on and work closely with our doulas.”

The Motherhood Center works with local pediatricians to ensure baby nurse doulas are continually learning the latest in the field. The benefits of this continuing education make our doulas stand out.

“Erica was delightful, very attentive to both parent and infant needs. I was so impressed that each day she would take the time to speak to other doulas or read about breastfeeding and care questions as they developed,” said one doctor. “I would highly recommend both Erica and The Motherhood Center to my friends, colleagues and patients.”
