Children's Classes

Parent & Infant Montessori

Please join us for our Montessori Infant-Parent Program.  A small group of parents and infants will come together as a community once a week in a special Montessori prepared environment along with a Montessori Guide.  The children explore an engaging environment designed specifically for their developmental needs, while parents practice supported, mindful observation and interaction.  The infant-oriented prepared environment allows the child to have a wide range of social and physical experiences in an environment designed to stimulate their emerging independence, encouraging babies to become attentive, active, exploring individuals.

Prelude – Music Classes for Children 0 to 6 years

See Prelude featured on Fox News!

Prelude provides music and movement classes for children from birth through kindergarten who are accompanied by their parents or caregivers. Classes are held on weekday mornings, afternoons and on Saturdays.

Children and their parents experience live classical instrument demonstrations presented by world-class musicians. Families are encouraged to attend class together, so siblings can learn music and movement activities to enjoy at home. Classes use Music Together curriculum, a research based music and movement program. This curriculum develops a child''s basic music competence by encouraging interactive music experiences rather than learning information about music. Up to 12 children and their caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and play instruments that are developmentally age appropriate. Both adults and children participate. Every family receives two CDs of the music, a song book and parent education materials. Each semester, an evening of parent education is offered to those enrolled in the program.

It is never too early for children to experience the wonder of music and experience making music first hand, states Music Director Ana Trevino-Godfrey. Children, even newborns, gravitate to music instinctively and it is never too late for parents to discover that music appreciation is an evolving life-long skill that they can enjoy for a lifetime with their families. All classes are taught by AnaTrevino-Godfrey, a classically trained professional singer, with her Doctorate of Music at Rice University. She has taught children of all ages from infancy to professional lives, including teaching at Interlochen Arts Camp, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Rice University and Rice University's Preparatory Summer Vocal Camp. In 2007, her love of music and children inspired her to create Prelude Music Classes for Children. She is a registered Music Together teacher and is founding member and Soprano soloist with Mercury Baroque.

Toddler Experiential Art

toddler-art2Toddler Experiential Art focuses on learning through doing. The way in which art is presented to a toddler will have a direct effect on how a child expresses, explores and develops creatively. From a child's very first scribbling, around one year old, he is learning that he can create. Non toxic play dough, paint, and edible art materials are just a few of the mediums for your toddler to explore; it works to improve fine motor skills and encourages use of imagination. In addition to traditional painting tools we will present a more creative approach by incorporating surprise art materials and unique techniques. Please wear play clothes to these activities; we will get messy but you will be keeping the mess here, and we will help clean-up. Let us know if your child has any food allergies. Toddler Experiential Art will elicit sheer delight from your child.

Reinforce your child's ability to learn the alphabet through physical, auditory, and visual stimulation. Designed

for the high energy pace of two-  to five-year olds, this class keeps kids on the move as they sign and act their way through the alphabet accompanied by visual aids.  Just as babies can sign before they can speak, children can learn to spell before they can write.  An excellent pre-reading activity, and lots of fun.  Moms and dads are encouraged to attend to learn along with their children and help reinforce their child's retention of the alphabet between classes.  No previous signing experience necessary.

Little Gardeners & Crafts 3-5

Teach the love of gardening to children, “plant” the seeds of a lifelong passion. Children are always intrigued by new things. They are enthralled by worms, butterflies, and nature's creatures.  Your child will poke holes in the dirt with their little fingers, drop in seeds one by one, and then cover them up and await the arrival of the first sprouts.  The curriculum represents gardens and things that we might see or experience in gardens. In each session we have new fun activities & crafts so that our students can continue to take the classes weekly throughout the year without repeating classes.  For example, we have painted toad houses, studied worms, and made bird houses. Come see what surprises await your little one in each different session. Join the adventure and get ready for the smiles as your toddler experiences the wonders of gardening and nature.
