Now, where do you start?

Many women think that breastfeeding should come naturally to them, but many times they and their partners are surprised how involved and sometimes difficult breastfeeding can be, especially if one is not prepared.

Breastfeeding is natural, in the same way that eating is natural. But it is a process that must be learned, and it’s not just you learning, but the baby has to learn, as well.

We strongly suggest that all couples planning to breastfeed attend a breastfeeding class. We are not just promoting our classes (although we think we have the best!), we hope you will take a class and learn about the process so that it will be easier for you as a couple and for your baby!

At The Motherhood Center, we recommend that you start preparing for breastfeeding during your pregnancy by attending breastfeeding classes. We also offer weekly breastfeeding support groups where you can meet other new mothers to share your joys and challenges of breastfeeding and motherhood. Our staff is here to help with all your questions on breastfeeding techniques, breast pump options, nursing bras, and other products available in our retail store.

Some of the topics covered in our breastfeeding classes are:
learning all about proper latch and a variety of breastfeeding positions
how to know if your baby is getting enough nourishment
how to use a breast pump, and why
learning how hospital practices and policies can affect breastfeeding success
learning how to deal with common breastfeeding difficulties

….there is so much to LEARN about this natural process, much of which just doesn’t come naturally as we all think it should. Practice + Education = Success!

Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends at least one year of breastfeeding? Did you know that parents who attend a breastfeeding class will have more success reaching their breastfeeding goals? Did you know that breastfeeding reduces the incidence and severity of many diseases including allergies, childhood cancers, diabetes and obesity? Did you know that going skin-to-skin with your baby immediately after birth for at least 20 minutes with no interruption will increase breastfeeding rates and longevity?
